Linking Challenges for Pseudonyms (DCMI)
Thursday, December 1, 2022 (11:00 AM - 12:00 PM) (EST)
Description
VIAF (Virtual International Authority File) integrates many name authority files in multiple languages into a single platform, but it is challenging to find an author’s name consistently due to various cataloging rules and vague linking. When an author has a pseudonym or joint pseudonym, the linking relationships become more complex or ambiguous. This presentation examines and explores how to improve the linking relationships of persons with more than one identity in VIAF, LCNAF (LC National Authority File) and Wikidata through definition comparisons and case studies in terms of the semantic web. In light of privacy-enhanced user-centric identity management in cyberspace, library authority data should include the perspectives of digital privacy and security.
