The Oceania chapter presents this online seminar to showcase research in our region with implications for library and information science practice. In this session we feature are presentation, followed by Q&A on: Charting the future of library and information science in Australia and New Zealand through research, education and practice partnerships. This presentation will report on three workshops from 2023-2024 with over 80 participants from across public, school, and academic libraries, and educators and researchers from LIS schools, examining the state of LIS in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), where there is a decreasing number of LIS programmes and ensuing concerns around the future of LIS Education, and consequently LIS Research and LIS Practice. Most participants indicated LIS education to be of the most concern, tying it in with consequences for future research and professional practice, with other concerns around government and university policies, funding and national research assessment exercises that sideline LIS. One of the strongest conclusions that emerged from all the workshops was the potential role of LIS professional associations in bringing together theory, praxis and education through engaging in more dialogue and broad consultations that are inclusive of contemporary societal priorities while ensuring a future for the discipline. Presenters: Dr. Edward Luca is Course Director and Senior Lecturer in Information Studies at Charles Sturt University. His research interests include metrification and academic work, scholarly publishing and academic librarianship. He is associate editor of the Journal of the Australian Library and Information Association (JALIA). Dr. Bhuva Narayan is Associate Professor of Communication at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Her research interests include information behaviours, information avoidance, personal information management, scholarly communication and open access. She is associate editor of the Journal of the Australian Library and Information. Dr. Mary Anne Kennan is Adjunct Associate Professor at Charles Sturt University. Her research interests include scholarly communication; the education of, and roles for, librarians; and the practices of information sharing and collaboration. She is editor of the Journal of the Australian Library and Information Association (JALIA).
