Plan on Hosting a Webinar and/or Event? 🤔

Read this first!!

All SIG and Chapter Events must be submitted to HQ on This Form and given a registration link before any communication of the event takes place. Please review the video linked below to understand the various options a SIG or Chapter has for hosting an event. This video is also saved in the SIG Cabinet and Chapter Assembly iConnect Libraries under General Resources.

Have You Appointed All of Your Officers Yet?

By now, you should have appointed any officers necessary for your SIG or Chapter to function effectively. Please ensure that you have done so and let us know who they are at your earliest convenience by contacting membership@asist.org.

Uncovering ASIS&T's Organizational Values

We are asking you to hold a conversation with members of your SIG or Chapter within the month of February 2025. This can be a face-to-face meeting via video conferencing or a discussion through iConnect. Whichever you choose, please inform your members through iConnect of how you will conduct this conversation. By February 28th, please email Ian Ruthven ian.ruthven@strath.ac.uk with up to five values identified by your SIG or Chapter. (See Ian's full post here...)

ASIS&T Project Grants

ASIS&T is now accepting applications for the ASIS&T Project Grants

  • Application process and eligibility criteria: https://www.asist.org/about/documents-resources/

  • Established by the Board of Directors to assist member components (SIGs, Chapters, Committees) that want to undertake worthwhile projects but lack sufficient funds.

  • The Grant is administered by ASIS&T Central. The liaison responsible for representing the grant recipient regularly reports to the Board of Directors on the use of the granted funds.

  • Grants may not exceed $5,000 and projects should be completed within a 12-18 month timeframe.

ASIS&T Awards Policies

As SIGs and Chapters begin holding events, they may choose to offer awards to recognize members for outstanding achievement. SIGs and Chapters may make awards at their discretion if they meet the following requirements:

  • The award must be listed on the "Awards" page of the SIG's or Chapter’s website. The criteria for the award and deadline for application must be explicit.
  • The call for nominations/applications for all awards must be shared in the SIG's or Chapter’s iConnect page and in the Inside ASIS&T newsletter.
  • Awards to individuals who are not ASIS&T members are strongly discouraged. No award may be given to an individual who is not an ASIS&T member unless membership in ASIS&T is an explicitly included as part of the award.
    • ASIS&T memberships, when given as part of an award, may only be funded with retained earnings. SIGs and Chapters may not use allocation funds to award memberships.
    • SIGs and Chapters may only award ASIS&T membership to non-members. Awards may not be used to pay for membership for a current or recently (within the last 5 years) lapsed member.
    •  If membership is offered as part of an award to a non-member, it must be spelled out on the website whether the cost of membership is provided in addition to the value of the award or if it will be deducted from the total amount of the award.
  • Requests for award funding must be submitted to ASIS&T HQ at least 30 days prior to the end of the fiscal year (not later than June 1) for inclusion in the current fiscal year. Requests received after June 1 will be processed out of the following fiscal year’s funds.

These policies are also available in the SIG Officer's Manual and the Chapter Officer's Manual.

Have you checked your website lately?

Many SIG and Chapter websites have not been updated since the Annual Meeting. If you are serving as the Webmaster for a SIG or Chapter, view this video to learn how to update your SIG or Chapter webpage. For your Webmaster log-in credentials, please reach out to membership@asist.org. If your SIG or Chapter does not have a designated Webmaster, the Chair should reach out to membership@asist.org.

Change to SIG or Chapter Workshops at Annual Meeting

For the 2025 Annual Meeting we will be offering SIGs and Chapters the opportunity to offer either a Symposium or a Workshop ahead of the Annual Meeting. If you watch the video linked above, Lydia describes the difference between a symposium and a workshop but the bottom line is that a workshop should have learning outcomes and skills transfer. A symposium would consist of a series of presentations by SIG or Chapter members. These can be offered either virtually, face-to-face, or both (as two separate events). Please keep an eye on this newsletter and your emails for more on how to submit for a session at the Annual Meeting.

Of course, SIGs and Chapters are also invited to submit proposals for panels at the Annual Meeting.
